Feminism

I’m not going to pretend I understand the everyday problems of being a women in society. It would be idotic and ignorant. I watched Hillary Clinton’s campaign with astonishment as countless women  cried bloody sexism. I spent countless hours speaking to my girlfriend to understand some of their issues, but we came to the conclusion that these issues are issues women had to deal with from previous generations. Doesn’t mean sexism is dead, but it’s universally accepted as ignorance.

Feminist revolutionist fought valiantly to make sure women have the same opportunities as any men. They pushed for legislation to ensure women have all the same opportunities and pay as any men. This does not mean entitlement. There are feminist theorist that suggest woman’s role in society are defined by men and conditioned by male values. Other theories question success since the yard stick of success was defined by men, therefore it will always be unfair. All this is good and necessary for our society to debate over, but I don’t think an under-qualified woman deserves to hold the second most powerful seat in the world because she’s a woman has anything to do with conditioning or sexist media bias.

Any women who is swayed by Sarah Palin because she’s a woman is doing feminism a huge disfavor. Nobody (at least nobody I know) is denying her right to be a Vice President candidate because she’s a woman. If she is; knowledgeable, have a strong leadership ability, and sound policies, I would be glad to support her. But if we vote for her because she’s a woman, then I think they are totally missing the feminism movement and what it means to be a women. They fought for equal rights because they were discriminated against for being a women even though were just as capable of doing the job of any men. Voting for a candidate because she’s a woman is exactly what feminist fought against, clueless men considered more qualified because he was a man.

If she was a man, would he be qualified?
