Synecdoche, New York
If Charlie Kaufman wrote a film where a man poops into an empty Campbell Soup can, I would pay to watch it. The last few films he’s written, Kaufman has redefine and reset expectations of writers and their role in films. He is the artist writer; weaving together sarcastic complex melodrama and human psycho drama, into a surreal magical realism storyline. His stories are so complex and surreal, viewers can watch his films over and over again to discover new layers of meaning.
His latest film Synecdoche, New York will be his directorial debut and the trailer looks like it’s going to be another good mind fuck. Honestly, I can’t tell you what it’s about, but if you asked me to sum up; Being John Malkovich, Ethereal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, or Adaptation, I wouldn’t even know where to start. It’s produced by Spike Jonze and stars Philip Seymour Hoffman, Catherine Keener, and Emily Watson. With a rock star lineup like this, the October 24 release date is highly anticipated.
