The Day The Earth Stood Still

A few weekends ago, I visited the Hammer Museum. Their current exhibit is of John Lautner’s work. His work dots the hillside of southern California like space saucers landing for an invasion. You’ve probably seen some of his work in movies and shows film around LA.

What struck me is the the shear volume of perspective sketches, orthographic drawings, models, and photographs used to explain each building. These artifacts act as tools to convey abstract concepts to stakeholders as well as a historical documentation.

It reminds me of the work User Experience Designers do when we explain digital design concepts to stakeholders. We also create artifacts to explain our ideas, but instead of focusing on just wireframes as our primary objective, we should employ a process to tell the story as it unfolds over time. Utilize the toolbox of storytelling to it’s fullest potential, after all, wireframing is just one method to express complex ideas.

Live peacefully or be destroyed as a danger to other planets.
